First there is the console. This will give you all the messages that are appropriate for the World. Moving the mouse over an item, creature or special map tile will generate a message here.

Then there is your user interface to your items and statistics. You will see here buttons that are actions associated with your items.

Last of all there is the World. In the middle you will see yourself. There are all sorts of items and creatures. You will see an item that has been highlighted, which means it is ready to be picked up and a creature that has been set as the target for your actions. (Don't worry, although this is black and white, the full game is in colour!)
